ALEXANDRIA, IN – Barbara Joanne Likens entered peace and rest on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, from Community Hospital in Anderson following a brief illness.
She was born on her parents’ farm in Lafayette Township, Madison County, Indiana to Theodore “Ted” and Dorothy (Armstrong) Likens and has resided in the Alexandria area since she was nine years old. Barbara was a graduate of Cunningham Elementary School and Alexandria High School-Class of 1953. She received a BS degree in Education from Marion College and a MS degree in Education from Butler University. Her first 2 years of her teaching career were spent at College Corner school in Richland Township. Barbara retired after 32 years of teaching in the South Madison Community School Corporation of Pendleton. She was a member of the Alexandria First Christian Church, the Indiana Retired Teachers Association, PI Kappa Sigma Sorority which later merged with Sigma Kappa Sorority and the Indiana Farm Bureau. She was a former member of the Madison County Retired Teachers Association, the Alexandria Business and Professional Women (BPW), the Gilman Rebekah Lodge where she served as a Past Noble Grand, the Alexandria Rebekah Lodge and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Anderson.
Barbara was preceded in death by her father on May 2, 1976, and her mother on September 24, 1995. Also, her paternal grandparents Leander and Julia (Hobbs) Likens and her much beloved maternal grandparents Royal “Roy” and Pearl (Davis) Armstrong.
Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside service in Anderson Memorial Park, 6805 MLK Jr. Boulevard, Anderson on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 12:00 Noon, officiated by Michael W. Owens.
