Betty Sue Atkins, 81, of Indianapolis, passed away on December 19th, 2024, at her home surrounded
by family. She was born on March 23rd, 1943, in Hazard, Kentucky to Albert Cecil Potter and Nancy
(Collins) Potter.

Betty graduated from New Richmond High School and Anderson University with a Bachelor of
Science in Nursing. She obtained her nursing education while working and raising her three children.
Highlights of her professional accomplishments include having been inducted into the Sigma Theta
Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, serving as President of the American Psychiatric Nurses
Association Indiana Chapter, and having her research recognized by being an invited speaker at an
international nursing conference in Brisbane, Australia.

She retired from Community Hospital Anderson as a board-certified Registered Nurse, having
specialized in psychiatric and mental health nursing for much of her distinguished career.
She was united with her church, the Supreme Council of the House of Jacob, on May 29th, 1966. On
October 5th, 1969, she became a junior minister in Phoenix, Arizona. On September 10th, 1972, she
was ordained as a minister and on August 7th, 2011, she was elevated to the rank of Mother. She
taught Bible School and served as Secretary of the Sons and Daughters of God.

Betty is survived by her loving spouse of over sixty years, Lonnie Lee Atkins, and two children:
Christopher (Carly) Atkins, and Lois (Jeffrey) Brown; grandsons, Michael Mabbitt and Ryves Brown;
siblings, Marie (Denny) Irvin, Geraldine (Bobby) McFarland, Kenny (Darlene) Potter, Mary (Tony)
Knight; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jerome Atkins; siblings, Joann Hicks, Margaret
Watson, Christine May, Madeline Anderson, and Albert C. Potter, Jr.

Visitation will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025, 11:00am-1:00pm at Loose Funeral Homes &
Crematory, Anderson, IN.

Services will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 1:00pm at the funeral home with the House of
Jacob officiating.

A short burial service will take place in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery, followed by the repast (a
memorial meal and celebration of life) at The Community Room which is on-site at Loose Funeral
Homes.
