Billy R. Jones

Billy R. Jones, 88, a devoted husband and father, left us on September 12, 2024, after a long and fulfilling life. Billy was born on July 15, 1936, to Will and Dorothy (Stottlemyer) Jones in Anderson, Indiana. Billy graduated from Anderson High School where he played basketball, ran cross country, and was a state champion pole vaulter. He went on to graduate with a mechanical engineering degree from Purdue University. He also was a pole vaulter on the Purdue Track and Field Team and was a 1958 BIG 10 champion in pole vaulting.
Billy married Sharon (Carter) in 1960. They went on to have three children: Brad (Cyndy), Kathy, and
Julie (Phil) Clendenen. He was blessed with six beautiful grandchildren: Max (Macie) Klapak,
Mackenzie, Adrienne and Will Jones, Carter and Lucy Clendenen. And two precious great-grandchildren, Eli and Estelle Klapak.
Billy had a successful career in engineering at the Delco Remy Division of General Motors. He received several patents and numerous promotions. He retired at the age of 54 after 30+ years.
In retirement, Billy spent many years as a “snowbird” in Bradenton, FL, and Bonita Springs, FL. He was an avid golfer! He also loved boating, woodworking, margaritas, bluegrass music, the Colts and Purdue sports. But most of all he loved spending time with family and friends.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Dorothy Jones; sister, Sylvia (Nunes); and nephew, Ronnie Nunes. A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, September 22, 2024, from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm, with a memorial service starting at 3:00 pm, all at Loose Funeral Home and Crematory, 200 W. 53 St. Anderson, IN.
