Darrolyn Joy Phelps, 85, of Anderson, Indiana, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024. She was born on July 24, 1939, in Palmyra, Indiana, to the late Garland Darrel and Marie (Jean) Giddens.
Known to many as Joy, she spent most of her life in Anderson, where she met her beloved husband, Franklin Lee Phelps. The couple married in October, 1958, and began their life together in Knoxville, Tennessee. After five years and the birth of their first two children, they returned to Anderson, where their third child was born. Together, Joy and Franklin created a warm and loving home for their children and grandchildren.
Joy was a talented entrepreneur who owned and operated a successful decorating business, “Joy’s Interiors.” Her creativity and dedication left a lasting impression on her clients and community.
She is survived by her three children, Michael (Debra) Phelps, Holly (Jeff) Tucker, and Mitchell (Leann) Phelps; seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Mitch) Boudreaux, Ryan Burton, Michael Phelps Jr., Joseph (Monica) Burton, Justin (Amanda) Phelps, Samuel Tucker, and Nicklaus Phelps; and six great-grandchildren, Alicia, Carter, Elijah, Sadie, Noelle, and Naomi. She is also survived by her sister Judy (Alva) Sibbitt and several nieces and nephews.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of many years, Franklin Lee Phelps.
A private memorial service will be held at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory in Anderson. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to friends and loved ones for their prayers and support during these past several years.
