Daryl Emerson Scott, 97, of Anderson, passed away on February 26, 2026, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on October 3, 1928, in Des Moines, Iowa, to his parents, Beulah and Waldo Scott.
Daryl graduated from Ottumwa, Iowa High School in 1946, following which he served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Corporal in North China and Guam. He subsequently obtained his BA degree from Valparaiso University in 1954 and his LLB from Valparaiso University Law School in 1955.
Daryl worked for State Farm Mutual Insurance for ten years, ultimately as Claim Superintendent for the Southern Indiana Division of State Farm. In 1965, at the age of 38, he entered the practice of law and practiced for fifty years, retiring in 2015. Daryl was a trial lawyer and much of his career involved defending personal injury and wrongful death cases for State Farm. Early in his career he was also a public defender and a juvenile judge.
He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Madison County Bar Association, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Forty & Eight, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Elks Club and the Edgewood Country Club. Affectionately called “Dancing Daryl”, he and his wife Jan loved to dance. He was also an avid card player and hunter and spent much of his time with family and friends at his farm property and his lake cottage at Lake James in Angola, Indiana.
Daryl is survived by his loving spouse of 65 years, Janet (Hill) Scott; children, Brenda (Tom) Sneddon, Robert (Spencer) Scott and Greg (Kristy) Scott; grandchildren, Ryan (Caitlin) Sneddon, Jonathan Sneddon, Stephanie Scott (Wes Freie), Connor (Tierra) Scott, Mackenzie Scott, Madelyn Scott and Gavin Scott and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 West 53rd Street, Anderson, Indiana, 46013.
A memorial service will follow visitation at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. David Easterday officiating.
Burial of cremated remains will take place in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery, in Anderson, Indiana.
The family extends special thanks to Legacy Home Care for the loving care and comfort provided to Daryl enabling him to fulfill his desire to remain at home until his last dance.
Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church in Anderson, Indiana.
