Dennis Ray Jackson, 77, passed away on April 13, 2024. He was born on September 27, 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio and resided most of his life in Anderson, Indiana.
Dennis graduated from Anderson College in 1968 with a BA in Business. He graduated from Ball State University in 1973 with a Master’s Degree in Education. Dennis was a school teacher for 10 years before becoming a full-time auctioneer.
He was an auctioneer for over 50 years, and served in leadership positions for the Indiana and National Auctioneer Associations.
He was an active member of South Meridian Church of God since the mid-1960’s and enjoyed being involved with leading the youth group and later as a Sunday School Teacher.
Dennis loved his family, friends, and colleagues. He will be remembered for his love for God, deep friendships, making everyone laugh, love for animals, storytelling ability, generosity, playing Santa, empathy and support of others, quick wit, patience, love and acceptance of others regardless of differences, and ability to entertain others as an auctioneer. The greatest joys in his life were being married to his wife for nearly 55 years, being a father for over 50 years, being a grandpa to his 16 grandchildren, and recently a great-grandson.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Sheila (Smart) Jackson; children, Bryan (Karry) Jackson and Michele (Wayne DeVeydt) Jackson; 16 grandchildren, Kaylee, Kiawna, Kaitlyn, Alec, Isaiah, Emma, Ana, Trenton, Gabby, Sydney, Kingston, Thaxton, Elias, Rylan, Cashton, & Snow; and great-grandson, Maverick. Dennis served like a father to many of the young men & women that worked with him in the auction business (Tim Lilly, Travis & Kurt Wilson and many others).
He was preceded in death by beloved grandson, Alec Jackson; parents, Ruth and Ellis Jackson; and in-laws, Frances (Smart) Morgan (Everett Smart and Frank Morgan).
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm at South Meridian Church of God, 2402 Meridian St., Anderson, IN 46016. Services will follow visitation at 2:30 pm at the church. Burial will take place in the Anderson Memorial Park.
