Doris Evelyn Goodpasture Flora was the only child of William and Mary Goodpasture of Anderson, Indiana. She was born in the small town of Alexandria, Indiana in 1924. She graduated from Anderson High School in 1942; attended Freed Hardeman College (a Christian college affiliated with the Churches of Christ) for a year, and then worked as a machine gun inspector at Guide Lamp in Anderson for the next year during WWII.
Doris entered Ball State University, where she met her husband, Joseph W. Flora, and graduated in 1947. She then entered the University of Illinois, earning a degree in library science, and returned to Indiana to marry Joseph W. Flora (also known as Bill) in July of 1948. She worked for the State of Indiana Library Dept. as a cataloger of Federal documents and retired in 1985.
In 1953, Doris and Bill adopted their first child, Jean, and 4 years later adopted their second child, Jim.
Doris’ husband Bill passed away in April of 2021.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Jean; son, Jim and Granddaughter, Leslie Ann.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 3, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis.
