He is survived by his loving family; wife Maggie, son Andrew (Christine Miller) Aldred and daughter Allison (Mark) Bannister and granddaughters Shay, Katherine and Taylor. His sister Suda Lucas and brother Stephen Aldred also survive. He leaves many family members and friends who will greatly miss him. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Zachary.
Dwight was a man of many talents with a creative mind. He started several successful businesses and invented a device for measuring race car tires. He worked with Senator Birch Bayh of Indiana during the early sixties, a very interesting time. He was a gifted athlete beginning with tennis in high school and he was a scratch golfer. Dwight loved all animals and was never without a pet. But his greatest love was for racing of any kind including 4 cycle go karts, motocross and automobile. He was very active in amateur sports car racing and he was able to enjoy many years of racing with his son, Andrew.
He was very active in local sports activities over the years. He refereed basketball for many years, was the coach of Booker High School golf team for several years and also taught drivers educations to local students.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 12 to 4 pm Saturday May 28th, 2016 at The Traditions Condominium Club House in Sarasota.
