Ellen L. Jones (Downey), 91, of Anderson, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on February 6, 2026, in Anderson.
She was born on October 30, 1934, in Anderson, Indiana, to Glen H. Downey and Marie (Mathews) Downey. On November 8, 1952, Ellen married the love of her life, Kenneth "Gene" Jones Sr. Their marriage was a lasting partnership built on love and devotion until Kenneth’s passing in 2005.
Ellen loved her family and friends dearly and cherished the time spent with those she held closest. She enjoyed playing the organ and was a part of Lambert’s Friends for Life for several years. Ellen liked her puzzle books and crosswords and looked forward to dining out for breakfast after her weekly hair appointments. She also enjoyed going to Beef & Boards, where she attended performances for over 10 years. She would play games with her daughters and loved coloring on her iPad daily. She was known for her loyalty, warmth, and quiet strength.
Ellen is survived by, daughter, Barbara Dempsey; son, Kenny (Vicki) Jones, Jr.; daughter, Lisa (Lyndon) Wills; brother, Richard L. (Terry) Downey; sister, Evelyn Kay (Bill) Barnett; grandson, David Jones; grandson, Michael Wills; granddaughter, Jennifer Mackey; granddaughter, Mandy Heavrin; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in passing by husband, Kenneth "Gene" Jones Sr.; father, Glen H. Downey; mother, Marie Downey; daughter, Amy Marie Jones; sister, Carolyn Sowder; and brother, Charles E. Downey.
She will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
The visitation will be held on Friday, February 13th, 2026, from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 West 53rd Street, Anderson, IN 46013. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM. There will be a graveside service at Anderson Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Association.
