Listen to Obituary

Frank L. Phelps, 85, of Anderson, succumbed to cancer at his home surrounded by his family on February 15, 2017. He was born on July 8, 1931 in Anderson, Indiana to the late Frank and Martha Phelps.
Frank graduated from Anderson High School, and then went to Ball State University where he earned a bachelor degree in business, was a member of Theta Chi, and played on their golf team. Frank’s education was interrupted when he served two years active duty during the Korean War stationed in Seoul from 1952-1954. After graduation, Frank pursued his love of golf and was the assistant Pro at Grandview Golf Course in Anderson, where he met his bride to be, Joy. The two married in October 1958 and shortly thereafter moved to Knoxville TN where Frank was the Golf Pro at Beaver Brook Golf and Country Club. After five years in TN and the birth of their first two children, the family moved back to Anderson where their third child was born. Anderson is where they provided a loving home for their children, grandchildren, and where Frank retired in 1987 from General Motors.
He was involved in a wide variety of organizations throughout his life, and when someone met Frank they were never a stranger from that point on. He was a natural teacher to his children and grandchildren, and he loved to share experiences with his family. Frank will be missed dearly from all who knew and loved him.
Frank is survived by his wife, Joy, of 57 years; sons, Michael (Debra) and Mitchell (Leann) Phelps; daughter, Holly (Jeffery) Tucker; and his sister, Thea (David) Wellington. Frank was proud of his family and also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Jason) Farnan, Ryan Burton, Michael (Nicole) Phelps, Joseph (Monica) Burton, Justin Phelps, Samuel Tucker, and Nicklaus Phelps; one great grandson, Carter Burton, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Pat (Robert) Shafer.
The entire Phelps Family would like to extend a "thank you" to friends and loved ones for their prayers and support during these past several months.
Visitation will be held Saturday, February 25, 2017, 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 West 53rd St. Anderson, IN.

A memorial service will follow visitation at 2:30 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Young officiating.
