Ivan Eugene “Pete” Lewis, of Anderson, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Born December 27, 1926, Pete lived a long life marked by devotion to his country, faith, and family.
Pete proudly served during World War II and was known as the last remaining World War II veteran from Madison County and Lapel. In 2015 he participated in the Honor Flight Network to Washington, D.C., visiting the national memorials honoring those who served. On the day of his passing, he was honored with an Honor Walk conducted by American Legion Post 212 in recognition of his military service.
After returning home, Pete worked for 29 years at Anaconda Wire and Cable Company. Outside of work, he was an avid golfer who enjoyed many days on the course with friends and family.
On September 2, 1949, he married the love of his life, Bernardine Ledeber. Together they shared 76 years of faithful marriage. Pete was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Bernardine Lewis; his daughter, Kathy (Lewis) Plew, widow of Tom Plew; and his son, Michael (Debbie) Lewis. He was a cherished grandfather to Kevin (Kim) Plew, Josh (Tiffanie) Plew, Jason Plew, Jennifer (Kenny) Smith, Andy Lewis, and Kari (Jordan) Russell.
