Janene Givens, a cherished mother and mammaw, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 30, 1942, in Anderson, Indiana, to Robert E. and Wilma E. (Hoppes) Collier.

Janene married the love of her life, George William "Bill" Givens, on June 25, 1966. Together, they created a beautiful life filled with laughter and adventure until Bill's passing on March 17, 2025. Janene's enduring love for Bill was evident in every aspect of her life, and she carried his spirit with her always.

A proud graduate of Markleville High School in 1960, Janene went on to graduate from Hanover College in 1964 and then obtained a master's degree in education from Ball State University. Her career in education flourished as she taught at Markleville High School and later at Pendleton Heights High School after the two schools merged. Janene served as the Dean of Girls and cheerleading coach, inspiring countless students with her enthusiasm and dedication.

Janene was an active member of the Markleville North Christian Church, where she found her spiritual home. Her commitment to the church was reflected in her involvement with children's and youth ministries, teaching adult Sunday school and preschool, where she made a lasting impact on the lives of many.

A wonderful cook, homemaker, and a devoted supporter of her children's endeavors, Janene never missed an opportunity to cheer them on at their sporting events. Her unwavering support extended to her husband and family, providing a foundation of love that will resonate within their hearts forever.

Janene Givens will be remembered not only for her accomplishments but also for her kind heart and generous spirit. Her legacy will live on through her children and all those whose lives she touched.

Left to cherish her memories are her children, Laura (Dan) Wood, Pam (Dan) Richwine, and Brian (Jenny) Givens; grandchildren, Leah Richwine, Alex Richwine, Aaron Richwine, Jaclyn (Aric) Miller, Aaron Traeger, and Molly Traeger; great-grandchildren, Maxx Gossett and Rhett Miller; two cousins; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brother, Robert A. Collier.

Funeral services to celebrate Janene's life will be held at Markleville North Christian Church, 32 State St, Markleville, IN 46056, on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at 5:00 PM. A visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the church prior to the service. An entombment will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastor John Hackney and Pastor Dan Richwine will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Markleville North Christian Church, whose ministry was dear to Janene's heart.
