Janet Louise “Jan” Summitt died Monday, April 8, 2024, at the age of 89 at Countryside Senior Living.
Janet was born Jan. 17, 1935, to Ralph and Lena King, and lived her entire life in Anderson.
She began working for Delco Remy at age 18 and stayed with the company until her retirement at
age 50.
Janet was a member of the Anderson Women’s Bowling Association for 40 years and a lifetime
member of the WIBC. She was league secretary for several years and was given the Helen Rees
600 Club Honor in 2001. She was an avid bowler, baker, and artist. Janet loved to travel and
would often drive across the country to bowling tournaments or on vacations to see her children.
She was a friend to all and a surrogate mother to many. She leaves behind a legacy of
independence, laughter, and memories that will be cherished forever.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Lena King, her two sisters, Maxine King
and Charlotte Zion, and her brother, Carl King.
Janet is survived by her two children, Tonya Crego and Mark Summitt, granddaughter, Jessica
Holland (Mark), and great-granddaughter, Claire Holland, as well as several nieces, nephews,
and great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday at Loose Funeral Home in Anderson, with funeral
services starting at 1 p.m. Burial to follow at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
