Joe Richard Bonisa

Joe Richard Bonisa, Jr., 76, of Anderson, passed away on April 16, 2023 in Indianapolis. Joe was born on February 12, 1947 in Anderson to the late Joe and Patricia (Baker) Bonisa. He played basketball and baseball for Mt. Vernon High School and graduated in 1965. After graduation, Joe began working for General Motors until he was drafted in the United States Army. He faithfully served our country until his honorable discharge. He then went back to work for General Motors and worked there until retirement. He found his spiritual home at Madison Park Church of God and was a member of the Men’s Ministry and an usher. Along with church, he was the President of the Anderson Indians Basketball Booster Club. Joe was an avid Indianapolis Colts, Anderson Indians, and Butler Bulldog fan. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Joe will be dearly missed by his wife, Norma; son, Ritch (Jenita) Bonisa; daughter, Stacey (Kyle) Lazzell; step-daughters, Kim (Pete) Granger and Thea (Mike) Simpson; grandchildren, Conner Bonisa, Jocelyn Bonisa, Mikala Perry, Kaci Gillespie, Madison Hart, Elaine Rhodes, Brian Tole, Kiely Howell, Lindsey Dewing, Kristin Haddad, and Jami Haddad; and great-grandchildren, Brantley Perry, Graham Hart, Reese Dewing, and Sloan Dewing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-son, Ted Brian Funk; and brother, Michael Bonisa.

The visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, 46013. The funeral ceremony will begin at 12 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Anderson Memorial Park. All memorial contributions in Joe’s name may be gifted to the Wounded Warrior Project.
