Lou Ann Brown, 90, died August 6, 2023, at Prairie Lakes Health Campus in Noblesville after a brief illness. She was born in Anderson, Indiana on November 19, 1932 and was a lifelong resident.
She was a graduate of the Class of 1950 at Anderson High School. Thereafter, she attended Ball State University to complete her formal education earning a BA and MA in Education. She was a member of Chi Omega social sorority. Following college, she moved with her husband in a couple of his Air Force assignments in Texas and Florida, before returning to Anderson.
She married her high school sweetheart, Phillip R. Brown, her husband of 68 years, on April 10, 1954, in Anderson. Her husband died in July 2022.
She taught for many years part-time with Anderson Community Schools, serving in elementary assignments.
She was active in her church, First United Methodist Church of Anderson. She served for several years as a church-appointed board member of United Faith Housing (Harter House) where she had a reputation for being a tireless organizer of fundraising events. She was a supporter of many activities with her children. Her main hobby was being a devoted member of her family. She also loved gardening, cooking, watching Pacer games on TV, and especially Anderson Indian basketball, of which she was a loyal fan.
Lou Ann and Phil raised three children - Steve Brown (Kris) of Carmel, Beth Ann Dowling (Brian) of Clear Lake, TX, and Jeff Brown (Kittie) of Noblesville. They had seven grandchildren (Andrew Brown (Brooke), Jennifer (Brown) Fay (Lex), Kevin Brown (Corey); Daniel Dowling (Nadia), Brianna (Dowling) Reeves (Jonny); Nathan Brown (Daniela), and Meredith Brown. Lou Ann was especially proud to have five great-grandchildren – Evan Fay, Sarah Fay, Grace Brown, Marlowe Reeves, and Teddy Brown. Lou Ann was fortunate to have time to know and enjoy her great-grandchildren.
Lou Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Margaret Kilmer. Her brother, Joe Kilmer, and sister-in-law Bev, of Pendleton, survive her.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 pm -2 pm, at First United Methodist Church 1215 Jackson St. Anderson, IN 46016 on Thursday, August 10, 2023, with services starting at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Anderson.
Memorial contributions can be made to the United Faith Housing or the charity of the donor’s choice.
