Mae Ellen (Church) Gale, 96, of Carmel, formerly of Anderson, passed away on December 28, 2023, at The Restoracy of Carmel. She was born on September 29, 1927, in Amboy, IN, the daughter of Rev. Dallas and Lorene Church.

Mae Ellen lived in many communities throughout Indiana, as her father was a Methodist minister. She attended Anderson High School, and graduated from Howe High School in Indianapolis. Mae Ellen also attended Butler University and was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority.

Mae Ellen met James Gale when he was working at Delco Remy, and they married in 1950.

She was a member of Anderson First United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women, and helped to start the Next-to-New Shop at the church. Mae Ellen was also a member of Tri Kappa Sorority in Anderson. She loved traveling the U.S. and Europe and spending time at her favorite spot, Sanibel Island. Mae Ellen loved her family deeply and enjoyed spending time and doing activities with them.

Mae Ellen was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James Gale, her parents, her brothers, Leonard Church, Eldon Church, Meredith Church, and Manson Church.

She is survived by her children, Jeff Gale (Barbara), Indianapolis, and Elizabeth Kuhn (Calvin), Indianapolis; her grandchildren, Allison Meixner (Brandon), Laura Kuhn (Glenn Riley), and Marsha French (Travis); her great-grandchildren, Hunter and Corden French; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd Street, Anderson, with visitation from 11:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. Burial will follow in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
