Mark Tracey Nelson, age 61 passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

Mark’s life was defined by his dedication to family, country, and his craft. He is lovingly remembered as a devoted father, husband, brother, friend, and soldier.

Mark is survived by his daughter, Laurali; his three sons—Tyler (with daughter-in-law Annie and granddaughter Emery), Nicholas (with grandsons Lyle and Everett), and Elijah; his wife, Jenny (with stepdaughter Maggie and stepson J. C.); and his sister, Laura Reske (with niece Katie and nephew Ryan).

Mark began his career as a Tool and Die Maker, working alongside his father at Mark Tool and Die. His skill and dedication led him to positions at Zimmer, Magnequench, and ultimately, General Motors. His craftsmanship and precision were apparent in all he created, as he had an incredible ability to build and craft nearly anything.

In August 1997, Mark answered the call to serve and protect the values of our nation by joining the United States Army. Over eight and a half years of honorable service, he dedicated himself to duty—first as a member of the Individual Ready Reserve and later, when called to serve in Iraq on September 19, 2004, he answered once more. His military career took him to Iraq, Kuwait, Indiana, Missouri, and Kansas, where he served in many capacities: as a machinist, infantryman, administration clerk, psychological operations specialist, intelligence specialist, radio operator, and generator repairman.

Beyond his work and service, Mark found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. He loved fishing in Canada and often reminisced about a particularly memorable trip with his dad and brother, where a massive 60-pound Muskie was caught. His passion for classic cars was evident in the Trans Am, Barracuda, and Mustang Mach 1 he owned. Whether working on cars, crafting something with his hands, or sharing stories with loved ones, Mark’s creativity and skill left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Mark’s force of knowledge, generosity, determination, and compassion left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. His legacy of service and love will forever inspire his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.

A burial service to celebrate Mark’s life will be held on March 31st at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to Honor Flight Network.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
