Mary Ann Harbit, age 81, of Summitville, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was born in Madison County on June 4, 1943, to the late George and Lucille (Perciful) Belmore.

She met the love of her life at Frankton High School while she was the cheerleading sponsor and Ted Harbit was the basketball coach. They married in 1969, had their daughter Melissa, and shared 55 truly happy years of marriage together.

Before retiring from Tipton School Corporation, Mary Ann was a State of Indiana "Teacher of the Year" award winner and beloved teacher/mentor who really enjoyed championing students in and out of the classroom for many years in several communities, including Frankton, Elwood, and Tipton.

Over the years, Mary Ann was an avid reader, line dancer, loved listening to all music, member of bridge clubs, cross stitching clubs, and she enjoyed announcing high school basketball games and watching sports of all kinds at all levels. More than that, she was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who set an example for being supportive, loving, faithful, and selfless.

Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Ted Harbit of Summitville, daughter Missy (Rich) Rust; and two sons, Marc (Teresa Wesley) Harbit, and David (Judy) Harbit; sister, Pamela (Roger) White; granddaughters Morgan Rust, Julia (Donggun) Kim; granddaughter Angie (Brad) Ehman; grandson DJ (Lauren) Harbit; and granddaughter Paige (Tyler) McPherson; and many beautiful great-grandchildren.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her father, George Belmore, stepfather Lewis Armstrong, and mother, Lucille Armstrong.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 9, 2024, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at Harper & Dunnichay Funeral Home, 305 E. Sigler St., Frankton, IN 46044.

A funeral service will be at 1:00PM Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Harper & Dunnichay Funeral Home in Frankton, with Rev. Roger Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Anderson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the “Ted and Mary Ann Harbit Scholarship Fund” (TBA).
