Mary Alice Smith

Mary Alice (Grimes) Smith, 99, of Anderson, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 13, 2025. She was born on February 13, 1926, in Anderson, Indiana, where she resided all of her life.

Mary Alice graduated from graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1944.

She then met the love of her life, Arnold, and they were married in 1948. Mary Alice was a homemaker and also worked for Indiana Bell as an operator, and Business Printing.

She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anderson. Mary Alice liked sewing and gardening, and was famous for her rice bags.

She is survived by her loving children, Carol (Robert) Frey of Merrillville and Mark (Vicki) Smith of Anderson; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also, surviving is her special niece, Ann Griner, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and Robert Grimes; husband, Arnold Smith; granddaughter, Casey; and siblings, Bob, Bill, Jack, Harry, Dorothy, and Marge.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025, 11:00 - 12:00 pm at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 302 E. 11th St., Anderson, IN.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow visitation at 12:00 at the church with Rev. Tom Metzger officiating.

Burial will take place in the Anderson Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church or Holy Cross School in Anderson.
