Melvin Earl Smith, 96, of Markleville, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2022, at the Miller's Merry Manor in Middletown. He was born on April 10, 1925, in Hilham, Tennessee and resided most of his life in Markleville.

Melvin graduated from Livingston High School in Tenneesee. He served his country in the United States Army.

Melvin was a machine builder for Guide Lamp Division of General Motors, and retired after 30 plus years of service.

He was a member of Columbus Avenue Church of Christ.

Melvin is survived by his loving children, Brenda Hull of Anderson and David (Susan) Smith of Markleville; grandchildren, Michael Hull, Kevin Smith, Leigh Ann (Todd) Vargo, and Diane (Stan) Arthur; great-grandchildren, Hannah Sands, Nora Hull, Bryce Smith, Reagan Arthur, Jasla Vargo, and Quinton Arthur; and great-great-granddaughter, Quinn Smith. Also, surviving is his brother, Bill (Betty) Smith, and several other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Florine (Alvis) Smith; parents, Walter and Mary Smith; grandson, Adam Smith; three brothers, and four sisters.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 24, 2022, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 West 53rd St. Anderson, IN.

Services will follow visitation at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Brother Gary Meeker officiating.

Burial will take place in Anderson Memorial Park.
