Merrill R. Stohler, 91, of Anderson, passed away peacefully with his daughters by his side on November 26, 2025. He was born on August 26, 1934, in Markleville, Indiana, where he resided most of his life.
Merrill graduated from Markleville High School, and then served his country in the United States Army.
Upon returning from the military, he was hired at General Motors and graduated from General Motors Institute. He became a computer programmer for General Motors and EDS, and retired after several years of service.
Merrill married the love of his life, Sharon (Page) Stohler, on July 18, 1959, and together they raised two beautiful daughters, Julie and Jill.
He was a member of North Christian Church in Markleville. Merrill once sat on the school board with South Madison School Corporation, was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan, and he raised and raced standard bred race horses with his brother, David. He also played baseball, basketball, golf.
Merrill is survived by his loving daughters, Julie Stohler Brown and Jill (Brad) Duncan; grandchildren, Travis Brown, Jared Brown (girlfriend, Ashley), Ethan Duncan (girlfriend, Ally), and Rachel Duncan (fiance', Brice Patton); and great-grandchildren, Cameron Brown, Tyson Brown, and Harper Duncan. Also, surviving is his special horse racing buddy and sister-in-law, Sheralyn Stohler, and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Cora Stohler; wife of 61 years, Sharon Stohler; and siblings, Bud Stohler, Virginia Bronnenberg, Marvin Stohler, Herbert Stohler, and David Stohler.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 2, 2025, 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 West 53rd Street Anderson, IN.
Services will follow visitation at 2:30 pm at the funeral home with Pastor John Hackney officiating.
Burial will take place in the Anderson Memorial Park, Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protection League or the Madison County Humane Society.
