Nancy C. Nieman

Nancy Carol Nieman was called to her Heavenly home on Friday, February 17, 2023 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. She was surrounded by family at the time of her passing.

She is survived by her children, John J Nieman III and Christina Holdren (husband, Al); grandchildren, Katie Harris (husband, Tyler) and Maddie Fox (husband, Seth); great-granddaughter, Haddie Harris; and brother, Larry Pearson… as well as her beloved grandogs, Murphy and Nova (and the neighborhood dog, Derpy).

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, John J Nieman Jr, and her parents, Bill and Maxine Pearson.

Nancy was born March 15, 1940 and was a proud graduate of Anderson High School, Class of 1958, and Ball State University, Class of 1962. She dedicated her 36-year career in education to teaching journalism and social studies at NorthDel, and then later, Delta Middle School. Teaching 8th graders always held a special place in her heart!

After traveling to all 50 states with her husband, John, they found great pleasure in “snow-birding” to Anna Maria Island, Florida for over 15 winters. Their summers were spent at their beautiful lake cottage on Elm Lake.

It was her personal mission to find the best coney-dog around. After years of deliberation, she finally settled on Gene’s Root Beer Stand taking the prize, with Ivanhoe’s a close second.

She was a competitive player of cards, Wordle, and sudoku puzzles. Her cooking was award-winning, and she loved a good murder mystery. Spending time with her family and friends brought her the most joy! The timing of her first great-grandchild being born just 2 weeks before her passing is one of the sweetest gifts!

A Celebration of Life Open House has been planned for Saturday, March 4 from 12:00 to 3:00 pm at Muncie First Church of the Nazarene, 3101 N Benton Rd, Muncie 47304.
