Phyllis J. McCord of Frankton passed away peacefully at her residence on October 6, 2024; she was 91. Phyllis was born in Anderson on November 22, 1932, to Lloyd and Thelma (Shell) Harbit, and she graduated from Frankton High School in 1950. Phyllis worked most of her life in the banking industry, eventually serving as senior vice president at Anderson Federal Savings and Loan Association. She was also a member of the Financial Managers Society of Central Indiana. She later worked at Ball State University in the Bursars office before retiring in 2002. She married her high school sweetheart, George C. Free in 1954, and they shared 13 years together before his passing in 1967. Phyllis was later re-married to Allen McCord in 1975, and they spent 35 years together before his passing in 2010.

A devoted wife and mother, Phyllis was a homemaker through and through, taking pleasure in cooking and gardening. She was also involved in the community, organizing the annual dinner for the Frankton Alumni Club. Though she stayed close to home later in life, Phyllis enjoyed traveling and following sports, being a fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Indiana University basketball, as well as following high school basketball locally.

Phyllis is survived by her sons, Doug McCord of Frankton and George C Free, Jr., of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She is also survived by a grandson, Jorde Free of Rock Hill, SC; a stepdaughter, Jackie Fisher of Muncie; and a brother, Ted Harbit of Summitville.

Along with her parents and her husbands, Phyllis was preceded in death by two stepsons, Terry and Robert McCord.

Services for Phyllis will be held this Friday, October 11, 2024, at Harper & Dunnichay Funeral Home in Frankton, Indiana. Visitation will take place from 10:00am until 12:00pm; a funeral ceremony will begin at 12:00pm. Immediately following the funeral, a committal service will be held at Anderson Memorial Park, where Phyllis will be laid to rest.
