Muncie - Richard L. Williams, 83, passed away on January 24, 2024. He was born on December 24, 1940 to Clyde L. Williams and Eudora George Allen Williams in Anderson, Indiana. Predeceased by his parents and brother John A. Allen, Richard is survived by nephew Scott Allen and many dear cousins and friends.
He retired in 2011 after a career spanning 40 years as an educator, beginning at Albany High School and then moving to Delta High School near Muncie when it opened. Courses he especially enjoyed teaching included English, French, creative writing, and drama. Richard had a great love for the young people he was privileged to teach and mentor.
Richard treasured time spent with family and close friends. Generous with his time and talents, he was also a skilled host, serving exceptional dinners in his home for many throughout the years.
Music, theater, art, dance, and design were things he appreciated deeply. He had a great talent for design, and enjoyed using it to design and renovate buildings, landscapes, and more. During many summers as a child and adult, he enjoyed time spent in the lakeside community of Bay View, Michigan, attending concerts, lectures, and enjoying good conversation with friends there.
Richard was an alumnus of Ball State University, and had also studied at DePauw University, Tulane University, Harvard University, and Sorbonne University in Paris. He was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Muncie.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 10 from 12 to 2 p.m. at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel. A celebration of life will follow immediately at 2 p.m. Interment will be private.
