Ruth H Cates, 98, Newnan GA, passed away July 17, 2024, at Harbor Grace Hospice, Atlanta GA following a recent surgery and age-related complications. Ruth was born and lived the majority of her life in Indiana until leaving late in life to join her family in Georgia. Ruth enjoyed a long retirement having moved back to the family home she grew up spending her days taking care of the home and hosting large family holiday celebrations.
Ruth known to her family as Boo was the last survivor of 13 children born to Ernest & Minnie Lou Hull. Her early life was spent on the family farm and afterward becoming a lifelong GM employee. She married a fellow GM employee, Harold E Cates, and raised her family in the Anderson IN area. She had two daughters, Kathy Cates Meyers, and the late Jennifer (Ginger) Cates Lawson.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Meyers of Peachtree City, GA her husband Robert, and their daughters Lauren Meyers Newhall and her husband Kevin of Augusta, GA, and Kelly Meyers Durrell and her husband John of Peachtree City, GA as well as one grandson, Jackson Lawson of Anderson, the son of Jennifer and Norman Lawson and four great-grandchildren Gabriel, Nolan and Rosemargaret Newhall and Cameron Durell.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents Ernest & Minnie Lou Hull, sisters Mildred and Helen Hull, Judia Dale, Edith Sayre, Ruby Shaw, Crystal Davis, Martha McCord, Polly Lindamood, and brothers Howard, Bill, Kenneth, and Norman.
Visitation will be held at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, Anderson, IN on August 9, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM AM with gravesite service and burial at Anderson Memorial Park starting at 1:30 PM.
