Sandra Cookman Ross, 75, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2018, following complications from a long term struggle with COPD. Sandi was surrounded by her loving husband, Max O. Ross, her children, grandchildren and many other family members and friends during her 2 week stay in the ICU at St. Vincent's Hospital, Indianapolis and St. Vincent's Hospice House.

Born on October 14, 1942, Sandi was the second of the three children born to Forrest Minter Cookman and Mary Eileen Gray Cookman. She, along with her older brother, Mike and younger brother, Ted lived a good portion of their youth in Middletown, Indiana. Sandi graduated from Middletown High School in 1960 where she twirled baton and was the head majorette. She earned her BA degree from Ball State University in 1965 and taught High School English for several years in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Years later, she worked in the Recorder's office in the Madison County Court House and spent many years at ALAC.

During her retirement years in North Fort Myers, Florida, Sandi initiated the Tamiami Village Park Beautification program. She and Max also started Tamiami Village Community Veteran's Association.

Throughout her life, she was caregiver to many family members and friends.

Sandi was preceded in death by her parents, Forrest Minter Cookman and Mary Eileen Gray Cookman. She is survived by her husband, Max O. Ross of Arizona; her children, Desiree Fox Tilford (Dennis) of California; John D. Fox (Gary) of Vermont; Max O. Ross III (Danette) of Anderson; Janie Ross Hubble (Jeffery) of Pendleton, and Tim Ross (Stacey) of Fishers. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Brandy Ross Tumbusch (Jason) of Ohio; Brian Ross (Anna Mary) of Pendleton; Austin Ross of Anderson; Cody Hubble (fiancee, Ericka Graves) of Anderson; Kaily Hubble (Alex Kamo) of Indianapolis; Bailey Tilford of Indianapolis, and Tamsin Tilford of California. She also is survived by four great-grandchildren; Hunter, Oliver, Payten and Lilli. Also surviving are her two brothers, Mike Cookman (Sharon) of Anderson and Ted Cookman (Linda) of California as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.

A memorial service will be held at Loose Funeral Homes, 200 West 53rd Street, Anderson, on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at 6pm, with visitation from 4-6pm.
