Susan Irene (Wedge) Williams, 81, of Anderson, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born on April 18, 1942, in St. Cloud, MN, the daughter of Clarence and Alice (Mondale) Wedge.
At the age of six, Susan moved with her family to Bloomington, IN. Susan attended Indiana University and graduated from Ball State University with her bachelor's and master's degrees.
Susan taught at Forest Hills Elementary School for 28 years, retiring in 2000.
Susan was a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood, Anderson First United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the Bible Study Circle, Edgewood Country Club, Anderson Country Club, the I.U. Alumni Association, where she also served as a board member, the I.U. Varsity Club, and the Retired State Teachers Association.
Susan enjoyed I.U. sports, golfing, and growing roses, orchids, and African violets.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Catherine Lynch and Mary Douglas, and her brother-in-law, Lt. Col. (Ret.) H. M. "Bud" Lynch.
Susan is survived by her adoring husband of 61 years, Jerry J. Williams, Anderson; her loving children, Tim Williams (Heather), Brooklyn, NY, and Julie Erwin (Bob), Oakmont, PA. who she motivated and encouraged to chase their dreams. She was an inspiration to her grandchildren, Doug Williams (Lily), Philadelphia, PA, Katie Williams, Nashville, TN, Nick Erwin, Nashville, TN, Allie Erwin, Bellevue, WA, and Megan Erwin, Bloomington, IN, who will miss her greatly. Susan was looking forward to the upcoming arrival of her first great-grandchild due in August 2023. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Charles "Chuck" Douglas, New Palestine, IN, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. at Anderson First United Methodist Church, 1215 Jackson Street, Anderson, with Rev. Corinne Boruff officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, June 23, 2023, from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Loose Funeral Homes and Crematory, 200 W. 53rd Street, Anderson, and from 12:00-1:00 P.M. on Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Anderson First United Methodist Church or the Animal Protection League, 613 Dewey Street, Anderson, IN 46016.
