Sylvia McCowan

Sylvia McCowan, 89, of Anderson, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2026. She was born on June 13, 1937, in Anderson, Indiana, where she resided all of her life.

Sylvia graduated from Anderson High School in 1955.

She attended First Baptist Church in Anderson, and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for many years.

Sylvia is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Fred McCowan; daughter, Kristi Utley of Indianapolis; grandson, Samuel Utley of Burbank, CA. Also, surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Nellie Wainscott; and siblings, Chris (Betty) Wainscott, Scottie (Lenora) Wainscott, Sue (Joe) Weaver, and Betty Jo (Neal) Zott.

Visitation will be held Saturday, October 31, 2026, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 West 53rd St. Anderson, IN.

Services will follow visitation at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Rev. James O. McCowan and Rev. Mark Sluss officiating.

Burial will take place in the Anderson Memorial Park.
