Thomas D. Barber, 66, of Carmel (formerly of Anderson), passed away on September 20, 2025. He was born on September 18, 1959, in Anderson, Indiana, the son of John and Ann Barber.
Tom graduated from Ball State University in 1982 with an associate's degree in business. He worked in the family business, Barber Manufacturing Co., Inc., for 40 years. He was a member of the Anderson Country Club, the YMCA, and other local organizations.
Tommy was a devoted son and a wonderful brother-always helpful, generous, pleasant, and kind, with a touch of smart-aleck charm. He loved music and art, owned several instruments, and took lessons to learn how to play them. He enjoyed all types of music. A big sports fan, Tom especially loved the Chicago Cubs.
He also cherished spending time at Walloon Lake in Michigan, where he spent several weeks each summer throughout his youth and as a young adult. His time there was something he always looked forward to and remembered fondly.
Despite facing many challenges in life, Tommy met them with courage and perseverance. He will be remembered for his friendliness, witty and cheerful disposition, and his consistently polite and considerate nature-among so many other admirable qualities. Tommy was truly one in a million, and everyone who knew him loved him.
Thomas is survived by his loving sister, Betsy (Blake) Lackey; his brother, Jeffrey (Susan) Barber; nephews Andy (Kiely) Barber, Jack (Christin) Barber, and Jay Barber; and nieces Molly (Brent) Shreve, Olivia Lackey, Meredith Lackey, and Laura Lackey. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jim Barber.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Loose Funeral Home and Crematory, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson, IN. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will take place, with burial at a later date in Anderson Memorial Park.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Wellbrooke of Carmel for their wonderful care of Tom over the past seven years.
