Listen to Obituary

V. “Dean” Byrne, a 94-year-old Air Force veteran, passed away on February 29, 2024. He was a remarkable individual whose life touched many hearts.

Dean graduated from Anderson High School in 1947, leaving behind a legacy of determination and resilience. His journey was marked by love, friendship, and unwavering faith.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, his only sibling, Roger Byrne, and his wife, Helen Byrne.

Dean’s life was enriched by meaningful relationships. His two best friends, Jackie Richwine and Carl Bowen, stood by his side through thick and thin. It wasn’t just these close companions who cherished him. Dean’s adopted family, whose identities are known to them, loved him deeply. Their bond transcended bloodlines and they were honored and blessed to be a part of his life.

Dean’s passions were as diverse as his character. He found solace in the Lord, spending countless hours studying the Bible. Puzzles challenged his mind and he relished every victory. Dean loved to bowl and play golf. Dogs were his faithful companions and he found joy in their company. Western novels transported him to another time and sporting events on TV fueled his enthusiasm.

Dean was more than his hobbies and interests. He was a man of humor, kindness, and sweetness. His love for feeding peanuts to the squirrels and indulging in Nutter Butter cookies or any sweet to satisfy his sweet tooth, were just a few of his endearing qualities.

As we bid farewell to Dean, we recognize that his absence will be deeply felt. He touched hearts, left footprints, and created memories that will endure. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and his spirit remains with us.

Dean’s family would like to thank the Care Teams of Northview Health and Living, Bethany Pointe, and Paradigm Hospice for allowing Dean’s last days to be lived with dignity and honor.

A private graveside service will be on Monday, March 11, 2024, at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Madison County Humane Society.

Dean, you will be missed, but your light will forever shine in our hearts. Rest in peace.
